Zebras Run Loose Around Washington State

Spotting exotic animals across the country makes you scratch your head sometimes. Four zebras that got loose from their trailer enjoyed an afternoon of running loose around Washington State.

The group of zebras had managed to get loose from their trailer when the driver stopped to secure the trailer along the I-90 in North Bend, Washington. While three were captured, one still remains missing.

Trooper Rick Johnson, the public information officer for Washington State Patrol District 2, posted photos of the zebras on X. He wrote: “This is a first for me and all @wastatepatrol troopers involved. 4 Zebras that were being transported got loose when the driver stopped to secure the trailer EB 90 to exit 32.”

Trooper Johnson added: “The community has come together to help. One cornered, 3 outstanding. Crazy!!”

Resident Dan Barnett said other drivers had the urge to help the animals and jumped into action. “The cars on the offramp kinda pulled over by the guardrail and kinda lined up really close to kind of make a makeshift fence to keep them from coming up onto the offramp area,” Barnett said.

Their efforts worked because the zebras avoided the interstate and instead, decided to gallop into the neighborhoods. Two of the zebras were caught with the assistance of rodeo professionals. According to a King County spokesperson, authorities continue to search for the one missing zebra.
