Police Find Man With 25,000 Bags of Heroin

Having items in bulk might actually hurt you in the long run. A Pennsylvania man was found with 25,000 bags of heroin during a routine traffic stop.

According to police, Ydale Thomas was driving his Ford Explorer when he was pulled over for traffic infractions by a state trooper patrolling I-76 in Pennsylvania back in 2023. When questioned by the officer, the 35-year-old seemed “extremely nervous” and his hands were “visibly trembling.”

Thomas claimed that he was returning home to the Pittsburgh area after he had driven to Philadelphia earlier that day. There, he had purportedly sold a dog to a man at a gas station.

The affidavit contended that “it cannot be overstated that Philadelphia, PA is a source location for the distribution of narcotics, and a regional epicenter for all criminal activity” and is “a hotbed for wholesale narcotics trafficking stash houses.”

A police check on Thomas’ name turned up an “extensive criminal history to include narcotics violations.” When asked for consent to search his vehicle, Thomas opted to decline. A drug detection canine was called to the scene as the officer believed Thomas was smuggling drugs.

The dog alerted on the car, prompting investigators to subsequently secure a search warrant. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered three large bags containing “suspected heroin packaged for resale approx. 25,000 stamp bags.”

Thomas was arrested on a variety of felony and misdemeanor drug charges. A judge ordered him locked up in place of $10,000 bail.
